When do I need an appointment to visit CIE?

Please call our office at (618) 453-5774 to make an appointment with one of our staff members M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. 

Immigration counseling is serious business! In order to guarantee that we are available to give you our undivided attention, we ask that you comply with the appointment policy stated below. CIE staff members are often at meetings out of the office, or conducting interviews with already-scheduled appointments, so walk-in service for immigration counseling is not always advised. Our staff works to provide a balance of appointments and walk-in availability in order to remain accessible for all students.

• Financial situations and Student Services (Community & Educational Programs Coordinator)

Immigration: Please send an email to issinfo@siu.edu to make an appointment.

• Change of non-immigrant status (Immigration Specialist)
• Practical training authorization (Immigration Specialist)
• Immigration reinstatement to student status (Immigration Specialist)
• Short-term loans; off-campus employment permits (Immigration Specialist)
• Dependent I-20 or DS-2019 requests (Immigration Specialist)
• All other detailed immigration issues (Immigration Specialist)

Services not requiring an appointment: 

Please allow 2-3 business days for processing. Document Drop off Services:

• I-20 signature for travel (plan ahead; do not drop off the day you travel)
• I-20 program extension (request should be dropped off at the CIE front-desk)
• Transfer out to another university-Transfer in to SIUC
• Immigration status verification forms
• Graduate assistant visa verification forms
• Invitation letters
• Community programs registration
