Application Process

Overview

Once you have started an application, you will go through the following application phases:

  1. Pre-Decision
  2. Post-Decision
  3. While Abroad
  4. Returnee

Pre-Decision Phase

During this phase, you gather all the materials noted on the application page. You must submit all materials and questionnaires by the stated application deadline to guarantee that your application will be considered.

Post-Decision Phase

After the decision date stated in the program brochure, you will be notified via e-mail when a decision has been made on your application. You will then need to log in to see the status of your application. You will be able to view your decision letter, which will state one of these application statuses:

  • Accepted
    • Accepted
    • Nominated by SIU
  • Not Approved
  • Wait List

Your decision letter will explain the meaning of the status pertaining to you. If you are approved, you will be asked to commit to the program by clicking the "Commit" button. For screen shot of this, please click on Commit Screen.pdf.  This means that you are accepting your placement. After this point, you may not withdraw your application unless you have talked with your program coordinator.  You must commit to a program to allow before your financial aid and registration will be processed for your study abroad experience.

In addition, all students with approved applications will be required to complete any post-decision questionnaires and material submissions before departing on the program.

While Abroad Phase

You can access the system during this phase to learn of important happenings at your study abroad site.

Returnee Phase

During this phase, you will be able to log in to evaluate the program. Your program coordinator may also post information on dealing with reverse culture shock and returnee events.
